Minimally Invasive Treatment for Haemorrhoids, Pilonidal Sinus, and Anal Fistula

Laser surgery for haemorrhoids, pilonidal sinus and anal fistula is performed in Auckland for selected patients. During your consultation, Dr Cirolli will assess your condition and discuss whether laser treatment is appropriate for you, including the expected benefits, possible risks, alternative treatment options and recovery.

Conditions We Treat

Haemorrhoids (Piles)

Haemorrhoids are swollen veins in or around the anus that may cause:

  • Pain or discomfort during bowel movements

  • Bleeding

  • Lumps or swelling around the anus

  • Itching or irritation

Pilonidal Sinus

A pilonidal sinus is a small tract beneath the skin near the tailbone, caused by ingrown hairs. That may cause:

  • Pain or tenderness

  • Swelling or redness

  • Discharge of pus or blood

  • Recurrent infection

Anal Fistula

An anal fistula is an abnormal tunnel between the anal canal and the skin around the anus. Symptoms may include:

  • Pain during bowel movements

  • Redness and swelling

  • Discharge of Pus, blood or stool (faeces)

  • Skin irritation around the anus

Laser Haemorrhoidoplasty (LHP)

Laser Haemorrhoidoplasty uses a fine laser fibre to treat selected haemorrhoids while minimising disruption to surrounding tissue.
Potential benefits for suitable patients may include:

  • Day procedure

  • Smaller incisions

  • Sedation and local anaesthesia only – no general anaesthetic

  • Less postoperative discomfort

  • Minimal bleeding

  • Earlier return to normal activities for some patients

Laser Treatment for Pilonidal Sinus

Laser treatment may be suitable for selected pilonidal sinus cases and aims to treat the sinus tract using a minimally invasive technique.
Potential benefits for suitable patients may include:

  • Sedation and local anaesthesia only

  • Smaller wounds

  • Reduced postoperative dressing

  • Earlier recovery for some patients

Laser Treatment for Anal Fistula

Laser treatment may be appropriate for selected anal fistulas following specialist assessment.
Potential benefits for suitable patients may include:

  • Minimally invasive treatment

  • Limited disruption to surrounding tissue

  • Shorter recovery time for some patients
